Big Bend Beauty in the Face of Adversity

We borrow the earth from our children - quote image on

Time for a little Big Bend Love.
Maybe its a little more than a little.
The Trans-Pecos Pipeline proposal has been a grave concern to our area and for those interested click here, here, and here.
On our remote mountain top, it is so easy to avoid politics. Avoid the concerns of the surrounding communities, to really disassociate. Down past all my introversion, I have a deep commitment to community. I cannot ignore the foresight of how decisions like pipeline construction will affect the future of our children. My childish part does wish for sweet ignorance, but I was not blessed with blinders. I am horribly nosy, possibly to a fault. I did very little for the campaign. Just some social networking through my website and other networks. In the process I have learned a lot and have been rewarded with so much inspiration.
There have been incredible images and videos that will always stay with me.
Here are the creative blossoms borne from adversity, from the frustrations and fears triggered by the Trans-Pecos Pipeline proposal.

This video is very quiet and straightforward, but I found it to be very powerful and thoughtful. Very successful in sharing the concerns of an individual in a way that is so easy to relate to.

Vicki Gibson is one of the strongest voices and visual artist in the campaign for Big Bend. I am featuring several of her contributions to the campaign below. I also found her blog post on her experience in the campaign to be an invaluable reference source. Her husband Coyne has also been instrumental in Big Bend Conservation Alliance – Not In Our Big Bend.

Feel free to use this.

I may be considered a sucker, but her thoughtfulness has won me over and I’m a fan.
I’ll wrap up with one of her videos, just in case you are considering it too . . .

What a beautiful place. I’m wishing you all the best in stopping those pipeline plans. It’s about time we stop destroying every inch of nature in the name of greed and mindless consumerism.

    Have a great day!

Thanks so much for your encouragement and support Alex! It is frightening for people to face that our resources are not infinite, just like our mortality is inevitable. The future of children hangs in the balance as we simmer in our comfortable ignorance. Eager to see what deliciousness you have to share!

You are very brave to stand up and fight for something you care about. The world needs more people like you!

Fabiola – I really appreciate you. I do little compared to those on “ground zero” – just some social networking and posting. There are just so very few out here with such big hearts. Thanks so much for your eyes and ears.

I love the image. It’s so true. We do and give everything for our children.

I am glad you can relate and believe in this too. Without our eye on their future, our lives have very little meaning.
