In the deserts of Namibia, Southwest Africa, there is a popular amazement. . . . and it “barks”!!??

Their communication methods have also been described as squeaks, croaks, clicks ~ altogether a wide range of sounds. Baffling noise in the dead of a desert night from these five inch long marvels known as the Namib Dune Gecko (Pachydactylus rangei) aka Palmato gecko or Web Footed gecko.

Someone told me the other day, "The world has gone crazy and there's no escaping it . . . " Maybe its the mama-optimism in me, but I just raised my eyebrows and my heart ached a little with pity. Have they driven down our quiet, sweet desert roads . . .
Here's an article & image from WSJ about Big Bend and in particular Marfa, "cinematic landscapes that stretch unbroken to the horizon; cowboys presiding over art galleries; and sunsets that, at the smog-free altitude of nearly 5,000 feet, were the prettiest I’d ever seen. . . "
